As if CHVRCHES hadn’t given us 15 really great reasons to love them in 2013, they start of 2014 with this epic cover of Do I Wanna Know? It stays true to the original while adding their own personal style. From the brighter sound of Lauren Mayberry’s voice to the unexpected duet that breaks out, this one is intriguing at first but slowly evolves into an irresistible opener to every playlist. I can only hope they break this out at their Coachella set.

Deadmau5 – The Veldt (White Panda Vocal Edit)

I know you’ve heard The Veldt. I know you’ve heard Pompeii. This is the perfect marriage of those two songs. I’m not talking about a shotgun wedding. I’m talking about a long and proper courting, some nice anniversaries, a few family holidays together. This one is at the top of every playlist for the foreseeable future.

Natalia Kills — Saturday Night

One of my favorite things about music is the Life Soundtrack aspect of a good song. The right song at the right time can really turn any situation into the greatest episode of Friday Night Lights (thank you, Explosions in the Sky). Walk around with this song in your ears and everything you do starts becoming a little more epic. Just remember… you’re not actually in a slow mo montage. It’s just the best song you’ve heard this week.

The only thing that would make this song better is if the Chainsmokers did a remix. (Hoping. Praying. Fingers crossed)

Portugal. The Man – Modern Jesus

A few interesting things happened while Portugal. The Man was totally killing it on The Governor’s Ball main stage on Sunday afternoon. I was standing on solid ground and it didn’t feel like a novelty. John Gourley broke a guitar string and, in an impressive feat of manual dexterity, he seamlessly transitioned to a new guitar while singing. The sun made a glorious and long awaited appearance. And Portugal. The Man didn’t play my favorite song off of their fantastic new album, Evil Friends. So while I’m waiting for that call from the band to consult on their next set list, please enjoy this great track.

Put this track on your iPod…don’t really think about it. Just throw it on a playlist. It always fits. You listen to the first few seconds and it could be the vocal track for the new Calvin Harris. It could be the epic song to accompany this summer’s movie blockbuster. It could be the palette cleanser that you never knew your playlist needed. All you know is that it is smooth as hell and you can’t stop listening to it.

In true RAC style, they keep the spirit but transition the messenger. From spring to summer. From electro-rock to chill lounge. From partying all night to recovering on the beach the next morning. If Next Year was the song that had to blow up the Outdoor Stage at Coachella then the RAC Mix is the song that brought back those memories without requiring you to air guitar in the subway. I haven’t been able to turn it off.
