[PREMIERE] Bossa Lady (Deidre & the Dark x LEFTI x Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue)

Deidre Muro is no stranger to the pages of TMD. With her work well documented through her time with Savoir Adore, Deidre & the Dark and most recently Violet Sands. This time we get the pleasure of her angelic vocals on her own through her current project w/ Deidre & the Dark. Mix in some production from Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue aka Doc from Ghost Beach and LEFTI and you’ll be doing the bossanova all the way to Rio de Janeiro. Bottom line is this tune transports me to a far away time and place and it’s making me feel all hot and bothered.

A little from Deidre on the tune: “A few months ago, I gave the stems of the original “Boss Lady” to both Doc (Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue) and Alex (LEFTI). They ended up surprising me first with a collaboration, and then surprising me again with an amazing summery, jazzy rework of the track – and I have been loving it ever since.”

So have we, so have we.

Happy Summah! Good and you? It’s Tropical Tuesday and I’m sitting here wearing my freshest short sleeve button down featuring flamingos and wind surfers cause that’s what this song demands. A marriage made in funky vibes heaven. Pink Flamingo Rhythm Review and French Horn Rebellion teamed up to release this funkdafied slow burner to get your mind right. In case you haven’t learned yet, Pink Flamingo Rhythm Review is the brainchild of Doc Mendelsohn of Ghost Beach. And French Horn Rebellion needs to further introduction. They’re releasing this tune with some even bigger news which is a new full length album coming out this fall. If this is just a taste of what’s to come then we are in for a treat!

Every now and then a band comes along and completely demands your attention. Crooked Colours is exactly that. I first fell in love in March and I knew immediately that they were doing something different. They are carving out their own extremely unique sound. Constantly pushing the boundaries of whatever genre you’d like to put them in. I’m completely captivated, I’m in awe of where the songs take me. It’s bands like Crooked Colours that make me regain that passion and admiration for those that continue to break the mold. Got a stone cold stunner here that I just can’t stop listening to. It comes to us courtesy of New York City based Kennan Moving Company, rounded out by Oliver Kennan (guitar/vocals), David Tedeschi (drums), Bennett Miller (bass) and David Miller (keyboard). The laid back guitar riff is complimented perfectly by the blues tinged keys and Kennan’s silky smooth vocals. I’m thrilled to be able to present this to you. It’s a perfect tune to take you into the twilight of summer. A bittersweet anthem with an ode to a time when times were simpler and breezy – something we can all relate to. Get lost in the sweet solace of this tune.

De Lux – When Your Life Feels Like A Loss

Sort of a bittersweet tune here. Behind the upbeat melodies and guitars, it’s a song about life’s hope and dreams staying in your dreams. It’s melancholic to say the least. But I can’t get the guitar riff out of my mind. It’s just so damn perfect. I first came across De Lux back in August of 2013 where I claimed that I may have encountered the next LCD Soundsystem. I’ll stand by that statement more than ever.

A lot has changed since Ratatat left the scene. It’s been about 5 years since they have come out with a new album and the world of music has undergone several iterations of change since then. DJs are a thing, live bands are a thing. Duos that play guitars – not so much a thing. I had the opportunity to see their set at Governor’s Ball a couple of weeks ago and they were one of my most highly anticipated sets. I’m here to tell you that their new material is amazing and I can’t wait for this album to come out. I will also say that their live show, while sonically and visually is amazing, lacks a certain element knowing that most of the sounds you are hearing appear to be pre programed beats. All that being said Mike Stroud can absolutely wail on the guitar, their production is absolutely top shelf, and they leave it all out there. I just think it would be even more amazing if they were backed by a live band. But I’m going off topic here, be sure to check out the new album when it drops July 17th and until then, enjoy this nugget of goodness.

So high on Crooked Colours right now. Everything they are touching right now just has an edge to it. Here they provide a dark and dreary update to MGMT’s Electric Feel with their industrial vibes. Heavenly. Angelic. Complete and total inner peace. That’s what this tune evokes in me. The whispers and the simple back beat draw you in and it’s off to the races from there. Fine Animal comes to us from Columbus Ohio and they are brining a fresh sound that is exactly what I need right now. Their production has their own stamp and I’m just loving it. The track is from their LP, Before The Glow, set for release tomorrow, 6/16. Be sure to catch them at Cameo Gallery on July 31!

Our interest was piqued when we first heard rumblings of Alaska Wilson from David a few months ago and I’m here to tell you, the juice was worth the squeeze. The hypnotic synths are just what the doctor ordered. Harks’ JumJum Records is quickly making name for itself in pushing the envelope. From the little we know of Alaska’s, one thing that we do know is he currently resides in Dangriga on the coast of Belize. His fresh outlook has brought us this classic retrospective anthem.

Strange in L.A. indeed. Today we bring you the video premiere of L.A.-based Leitbur’s latest single and it’s quite an audio/visual experience. They’ve got a strong new wave vibe with a modern tinge to make their sound just their own. Leitbur began in 2007 with producer/singer-songwriter Jaron Widman and guitarist Jonathan Widman as a production by email project; a modern day Postal Service with a new wave flare, if you will. In their current iteration Jaron is joined by singer/songwriter Samantha Krzyston; giving them that boy/girl duo vibe that just works. I love this tune, so when I got a chance to see the video I was curious the direction it would take. It’s beautiful in its simplicity. Basically letting the streets of L.A. show you how weird they truly are. And the cartoon faces superimposed on all the subjects gives it this anonymity that elevates the whole visual. A fitting complement to a stellar song. Be on the lookout for their forthcoming release The Moment That I Knew You.
