Declan McKenna-Paracetamol
If you look up the definition of Paracetamol, you’ll see that it’s an acetaminophen-an over the counter drug that treats minor aches and pains. Perhaps, it’s a metaphor for the themes (growing pains and adolesence) that 16 year old British singer-songwriter Declan McKenna sings about in his new single aptly titled, “Paracetamol.” The song is a fantastic mix of quirky sounds, looped instruments, synth-y organ notes, claps, snaps, and humming.
In only a short year, McKenna has checked off some major musical milestones. He released his first single, “Brazil” via Bandcamp in December 2014. By early 2015, the song began to pick up steam, he was signed by Columbia, and he became the winner of Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition. This accomplishment garnered him a slot on one of the main stages at the massive music festival this past June. Now, with the release of his second single, he seems primed to take 2016 by storm. He’s definitely one to keep on your music radar.
