Why do we call it “Sunday Scaries”? I’ve heard folks use that term to describe the looming fear of the ever fast approaching Monday work day; which it then should be called the Monday Scaries… Right? Or am I missing something? You’re “scared” of Monday. Then again, I’ve also heard it described as the sort of Sunday hangover shakes from boozing all weekend and foggily recounting your last 36 hours of mistakes (where did these pro-Trump texts from someone named Frank come from/why is the Chinese food delivery guy asleep on my couch/why do my heels have no heels/this isn’t my shirt), while realizing you are indeed a tax paying adult with responsibilities and employees to manage in a few short hours. That sounds terrible. But I still don’t get the “scaries” part :-/. Either way, next time the Sunday scaries come a’creepin, you can find relief in The Sun Days – who are none of the above things – (and who may or may not have essentially copied another band’s name), providing breezy Cali-inspired beach indiepop by way of Sweden. They are happy, fun and all around super chill awesome. Stereogum called them “one of the best new bands in the world” back in their February review – bold, to say the least. They also mentioned that calling your band The Sun Days (with a space in between “Sun” and “Days”) is “a lot like adopting the name Churches or Limp Biscuit or Ray, Dio Head.” HA. Nice one. Their 2016 debut album, meticulously titled “Album,” is real real nice.

felipe’s dope ass 2015 playlist full of errors

Here’s exactly one hour of tunes for you so I can “fit in.” :-/ Most all the bands I included are worth investigating per their particular sound on their own. I’m a belieber in bands with good solid albums. Something dependable start to finish. Something you can count on. I’m so tired of starting relationships with these “bands” (if you can even call them that) while they lead me on, tease me with scintillating tunes, only for them to sputter away and “ghost” on me after 3 and a half minutes of passion and NEVER call me back… I thought we were having a good time? Why don’t you wanna keep having good times? Why are things always soo complicated? Oh you’re busy?! Ya sure… I see you posting on social media… but no no… I’m suuuure you’re swamped! Umm… so ya, kinda got distracted there. Anyways, the vast majority of these duders are included not necessarily because of that particular song, but because they had an album worth checking out. Bands that only have one good song are, well, boring… For anyone that knows me, you know that I prefer stallions, a big strong beast for studding purposes; none of this one trick pony bologna. So ya, I made this playlist basically as an abridged version of “2015 albums you should check out” but since that wasn’t what I was asked to do, I made you a playlist instead.

Even so, here are the albums to peruse in order of playlist appearance.

(If you a 2015 list of what “I” wanna hear all the time, hmu and I’ll send you a list of like 20 punk rock jams. Hope that’s chill with you.)

Hey Anna – Move Your Body

Hey Anna is a NJ/ Brooklyn based band who’ve been around for some time now, but seem to finally be earning the recognition they so deserve. The band, fronted by 3 sisters, plans to release their first full length LP, Run Koko, on July 7th followed by a release show on the 9th at Baby’s All Right. Thus far, the five-some have released 3 outstanding singles “Don’t Talk Stop,” “Move Your Body” (my personal favorite) and “Island.” What I love most about this introduction to their impending release is the sonic range of each track. Each song retains lush, summery melodies, but “Island” is more upbeat indie-pop, while “Don’t Talk Stop” ‘s grunge elements combined with the sisters’ angelic lead vocals creates a pleasurable and contrasting listening experience. “Move Your Body” falls somewhere in-between, with raucous hooks and ethereal harmonies. Take a listen to “Move Your Body” and watch out for their new album dropping next week!
