Broken Luxury – Come Back

When a song can shift your interest and ear from beat to beat, immersing you in an experience of active listening while making an emotionally provoking statement, you know you’ve found something rare. And Broken Luxury has achieved just that with the release of their first single in almost three years: Come Back. The electronic-soul duo’s newest song coasts through a relaxing yet upbeat soundscape that illustrates just a sliver of the world they’ve conceived within their newly-finished album Énouement. In an age of oversaturated musical meaninglessness, Come Back cuts through like a light at the end of a tunnel.

There is a beautiful simplicity to the construction of Come Back. A hypnotic continuous beat flows through phases of tonal and melodic peaks and valleys—yet it refreshingly surprises you with dynamic breaks and interludes that finally loop you back into the song’s chill rhythmic melody for another time around. It’s a vibe.

With no set release date for Broken Luxury’s album, Come Back gives you a short glimpse into how their artistic and personal lives have evolved. If you can’t wait to hear the rest of the album, the duo will be showcasing Énouement in its continuous entirety with a live band on December 15th at The Paperbox in Brooklyn.

Sonically innovative with an undeniable magnetism, the B r o k e n L u x u r y boys are a contagious force continuously proving they’ve got what it takes to be the ones you want singin’ and drummin’ you home. Josh Reynolds’ vocals are mesmerizingly pure yet rough with honesty and life. His words are amplified seamlessly by the beating perfection of Zach Golden, who drives their sound to climatic bliss.

The Most Definitely was lucky to have Josh and Zach blow out the last candle at our SXSW showcase with Wind-up Records. They took us to nirvana with an encore performance, closing the stage for the 21 acts that sparkled before them over two magnificent, hot n’ sweaty Texas days. Some cried, others smiled and together, well, we all danced.

Of the many brilliantly talented things Broken Luxury does to and with music, I think it is their raw, reflective sound I like most. It’s undeniably cool and totally addictive. The chillingly pure, surrendering vocals of Josh Reynolds makes me feel so comfortable — his sound is both intimate and calmingly accessible.

I can’t wait to see Broken Luxury perform live this Thursday, January 22nd at PIANOS. Word is they will be rolling out a new original cover — my heart is melting in anticipation.

TMD Live is back and we’re opening the 2015 season with a tremendous indie showcase at Pianos on Thursday Jan 22nd. We’re featuring five emerging acts spanning multiple genres starting with the beautiful and buzzworthy sounds of acoustic trio City of the Sun. The up-and-coming Wild Pink and Surf Rock is Dead will be holding down the NYC based rock faction for the night. You may follow the beautiful Miss Velvet on instagram, have heard two of her singles on Soundcloud from the upcoming record (produced by Nick Littlemore/Empire of the Sun), but I promise you know nothing about this act until you’ve seen them live. The delivery of this cross-genre set is built for Broadway. You won’t want to miss it. My favorite soul-pop electronic duo, Broken Luxury, will be on site to close out the night. They moved out from Chicago just last year and have been building a tremendous reputation in this city ever since. With over 30 new tracks in the works, many of which on the brink of breakout, their live set is always fresh and always amazing. So come early, stay late and we’ll see you soon.
