So that was 2013 huh? Pretty solid year. I’ve been working on this list all year. Full disclosure, if you’re looking for the obvious “Best of 2013″ list, this is not for you. This is more about the tracks that might have slipped through the cracks, the tracks that never quite got the attention they deserved. Some of them are more obvious than others (read: Daft Punk). While others, need to be heard (read: Streets of Laredo).

How do you boil down a year to 15 songs? In my case, you don’t. You make a soundcloud best of and a Spotify Best of list. We had a banner year personally, professionally and musically. A lot of firsts that I am extremely thankful for. Rather than sit here and wax poetic on what was definitely the best year of my life, why don’t you just sit back and listen to these tunes that helped make 2013 so special?

Wow. Never thought I’d be posting anything related to the Backstreet Boys but here we are. This is simply amazing. Here we get the lovely Charli XCX doing her thing and sexing up the Backstreet boner jam, ‘I Want It That Way’. I gotta wonder what’s going on here at TMD – we’re posting about Beyonce and Backstreet Boys. Next thing you know Max is gonna be rocking cargo shorts and frosted tips listening to LFO.

Charli XCX – You (Ha Ha Ha) (Goldroom Remix)

The homie Goldroom. Hardest working man in the game right now. Here he takes this gorgeous track from Charli XCX and totally makes it his own. And that’s what a proper remix does. Build on the strengths of the original and expand. I’d say this is a slight departure from what we normally hear from Goldroom. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, he’s just exploring the space. He’s still got that nu disco vibe going, but this is a little more tranced out it. I think it’s the intro giving me the trance vibe. Like some classic Paul Van Dyke style. Whatever it is, I can’t totally put my finger on it, and I’m really liking that.
