Long Weekends for Winners

It was Friday before a long weekend, and like most of you, I’m wasn’t actually working. My computer monitor might not even have be on, I wouldn’t know. People walk by your cube, you furiously hit ALT+TAB!! ALT+TAB!! (Where’s that fake excel sheet!? pick up the phone…) “…oh yes Frank. ya’know.., we’ve gotta maximize work time efficiencies and markets and synergizations… No no… totally.” So as we fake worked our way in to the weekend, we actually needed to get things organized so as to properly initiate vacay. Fun swim trunks? Good, good. Next: adequate driving/lounging/fiesta-ing music is required. But since it’s a Fake Work Friday (#FWF – btw I just invented that, feel free to use it) I needed the path of least resistance (re: “do as little work as possible”) for the weekend’s hot jams. Reaching back to previously featured artists seemed like my best bet. Getting me started was Midnight To Monaco, originally featured back in June. These duders have been releasing real fun(ky) tracks all summer. Next was Logic, originally featured back in October 2014 (ya… that’s 2 years ago), who has been blowing up the last year, and here is featured on Big Gigantic’s new track “All of Me.” Then we’ve got Get Inuit’s new track “Teriyaki,” whose fuzzy-pop is rather infectious. Closing out the official “Feli’s End of Summer Four Track Playlist” is a Country Swag prize from Brett Young and his mega-hit off his debut EP – “Sleep Without You.” Impossible not to smile during that one. And don’t try and be tough. Everyone secretly likes country. Just conform already.

So that’s what Feli Said. But since he’s lazy on #FWF, he didn’t get around to posting till today.

Season Summer Liberally with Country

The cold and the clouds are all gone in the Northeast. Now we can prepare for summer by queueing up some happy country tunes. I’ve done you a solid and updated my Country SWAG playlist on Spotify (click there to get it) with the newest and summeriest jams. Country music isn’t just about your dog dying and pick-up trucks and doing ur cousins anymore… Now there’s JACKED up pick-ups, super hot guys and gals (non-familial, of course) jumping in lakes and cruising down dirt roads, and don’t forget moonshine and homemade wine. No one does that whole “relatives” thing anymore in country music… Sorry to disappoint you Country haters. That said, what’s the deal with homemade wine? Why is that a thing? Let alone a thing you want?! If you’re at a party and someone offers you either like, idk, ANYTHING else, or homemade wine… who’s choosing the wine?! No no, you’re right, I’ll take some of the purple stuff with the chunky bits that she’s having. Oh… you’re pouring it out of an old gas tank you keep in your garage? Ya ya, no, it’s fine. Totes. You’re so hip. That said, here are some sweet country tunes to get you in the mood.

Did Skrizzly Adams have a beard?

Back in the 2000’s Bubba Sparxxx gave us country-rap before his fall to opiates and disappearance from the Billboard charts. Then came Sam Hunt, a college college football playin’ Georgia boy trying to be the R. Kelly of country music with his talk-singing (see “Break Up In A Small Town”). Now there’s Skrizzly Adams, blending some sweet country swagger with R&B beats. The Jersey-native relies on The Boss, Kanye, and The Allman Brothers for inspiration and describes his styling as “Heartland Rock with an 808 bump.” Now the name. If you’re wondering, like Shooter McGavin, if Grizzly Adams – had a beard (see: Happy Gilmore), yes he did. Lee Trevino confirmed this for us after Chubbs died. As for Skrizzly Adams, I wonder how he dares compare himself to the “greatest California mountain man of all time” who by the way, never hesitated to resort to “hand-to-paw” or “knife-to-claw” combat when necessary. Mountain man indeed. RIP 1812-1860.
