The Sun/Son Savi

Someone named Savi, more often than not, is female, of Indian ancestry, and Hindu. This Savi is not those things. Well… Now that I think about it, I guess that’s not fair of me to assume. This Savi appears male, although that could be insensitive of me and I don’t want assume anyone’s gender. This Savi self-describes with the use of male pronouns, so henceforth I will presume Savi is male, whether biologically that way or not shouldn’t matter as Savi identifies as male, so that is his gender (did I do that right? I’m trying to be better). Savi surely doesn’t “look” Indian, but then again, what does an Indian “look” like? It’d be racially insensitive of me to just say all Indian people look alike or prescribe to one stereotyped or generalized outward appearance. Is Savi Hindu? Beats me. That’s his business, just like his gender and his ancestry. So maybe he was born female, has Indian ancestry, and is a practicing Hindu, or maybe he’s a white guy from the Midwest, idk… Or maybe his parents heard that Savi meant “the Sun,” but since they heard it, thought it meant “the son,” and so gave an Indian Hindu girl’s name to their baby boy. I don’t know… I’m just saying. In these racially charged times, it’d be pretty messed up of me to go ahead and assume things about someone I didn’t know. In this new world, I guess one is just as likely as the other, right? What do you think?

(Oh ya, this is supposed to be about music.) This is his new track that came out a week ago. You can find him spinning in clubs in LA and Vegas for folks like Kanye and Johnny Depp.

Do you have the post-holiday blues? The “no-longer long weekend” shakes? The “why is everyone emailing me? don’t they realize yesterday was a holiday!? I’m not a machine goddammit!” Well this Canadian mystery man, Jeff Hartford, aka ATTLAS, will help cool you down with his new lyric-less jam. The Canuck got stuck in in the Mau5trap (DeadMau5’s label), and for a while had people thinking he actually was Mr. Mau5 himself, releasing tunes under a shadow moniker, but alas, he’s a real person. If you need another reason to like Jeff, Jeff is really in to Taylor Swift and inspired by movie soundtracks. His super chill Star Wars themed song, “Sunset Over Manaan” throws in some Han Solo dialogue here and there, and today’s jam, his new single out last week, “Ryat,” is also pretty nice and easy going to get you through whatever scaries you may be experiencing. Galantis – Pharmacy (LP)

Swedish EDM newish superduo, Galantis, are independently behind hits likes Britney’s “Toxic” and Icona Pop’s “I Love It.” So these Grammy winning dudes decided to team up and knock some socks off. They played Coachella in 2014, only 2 weeks after their first release, and won a Billboard Poll asking fans who had the most memorable live dance music set; beating Calvin Harris, Disclosure, Girl Talk, etc… They played Ultra in Miami this year, and the International Dance Music Awards (IDMAs?? How’d they not call it the MDMAs??) (seriously though… there are WAY too many awards shows! Not EVERYONE deserves a freakin’ participation ribbon. Damn liberal child-huggers not keeping score at soccer games anymore. You know who knows the score? The kid that WON!! Ugh.. between the Emmy’s, Tony’s, Grammy’s, Razzies, AVN’s, Darwin Awards, there’s even a Bloggies(!), 80 different music awards… not to mention country music has an award show every other week, no joke. Turn on the TV. The CMA’s are on, like right now. I’ll wait)… they won best breakthrough artist of 2015. Brand new album out called Pharmacy. It’s quite good.

Hudson Mohawke – Ryderz

Hudson Mohawke is a really cool nome de plume. Although Ross (his real name) is neither from anywhere near the NY Hudson Valley area, nor does he have a mohawk…. So ya… Is that irony? or just “not”..? After Alanis Morissette I can never forget which is which… :-/ The Glasgow native/London transplant has been scratchin’ jams together since he was 15 (now 28), collaborating with all sorts of ppl (Kanye, Travis Scott, Pusha T, etc) and has been defined as “genre smashing.” That’s a pretty awesome way to be described, I’d say. This track, not particularly EDM-y, but it’s got a bit of a #tbt feel to it… hence its selection (ya it’s not Thursday but whatever… shut it. Pretend you’re reading this on a Thursday). That and it’s brand spankin’ new. And awesome. He’s on a US tour starting now-ish.

Superwalkers – Not Like Us

Superwalkers is a Swedish super-duo from the year 2987. They were supposed to be sent back to the 80’s but ended up in 2014! OH-EM-GEE! They have returned to “share their vision in a way we all understand – through music.” With their future-retro sound and progressive attitude, they believe that music will change the world. They claim they are here to remind us: “We are strong.We are capable. We are all superheroes.” I have a buddy who also believes we all at least have some sort of “superpower,” no matter how big or how small. He claims his is to hold his diarrhea in until it turns solid. He’s a weird guy. So too it seems are the Superwalkers. Makes sense I like them both, I guess.
