The Sun/Son Savi

Someone named Savi, more often than not, is female, of Indian ancestry, and Hindu. This Savi is not those things. Well… Now that I think about it, I guess that’s not fair of me to assume. This Savi appears male, although that could be insensitive of me and I don’t want assume anyone’s gender. This Savi self-describes with the use of male pronouns, so henceforth I will presume Savi is male, whether biologically that way or not shouldn’t matter as Savi identifies as male, so that is his gender (did I do that right? I’m trying to be better). Savi surely doesn’t “look” Indian, but then again, what does an Indian “look” like? It’d be racially insensitive of me to just say all Indian people look alike or prescribe to one stereotyped or generalized outward appearance. Is Savi Hindu? Beats me. That’s his business, just like his gender and his ancestry. So maybe he was born female, has Indian ancestry, and is a practicing Hindu, or maybe he’s a white guy from the Midwest, idk… Or maybe his parents heard that Savi meant “the Sun,” but since they heard it, thought it meant “the son,” and so gave an Indian Hindu girl’s name to their baby boy. I don’t know… I’m just saying. In these racially charged times, it’d be pretty messed up of me to go ahead and assume things about someone I didn’t know. In this new world, I guess one is just as likely as the other, right? What do you think?

(Oh ya, this is supposed to be about music.) This is his new track that came out a week ago. You can find him spinning in clubs in LA and Vegas for folks like Kanye and Johnny Depp.

[VIDEO] ASTR – Activate Me

If you’re immersed within the world of electro-pop music, it’s likely that ASTR is a household name. As long time fans of the NYC-based duo, which is comprised of female vocalist Zoe Silverman and producer Adam Pallin, we are thrilled to share the video for their latest single “Activate Me.”

With a knack for mixing genres, ASTR’s sound falls on a unique spectrum of pop-inspired R&B with a taste of electronic, indie alternative. “Activate Me” is a dark dance track inspired by 90s house music. ASTR explains:

“‘Activate Me’ is definitely a different sound for us, something heavily inspired by New York’s legacy when it was the center of house music in the 90s. It’s moody and dark like some of our older songs but with a more upbeat and dance twist.”

Steering away from shimmery pop, “Activate Me” is filled with ASTR’s signature bright synths and bouncy beats, creating an immediate dance club anthem.

Years & Years – Shine

London electronica trio (an “electrio” or “electrotrio”?) Years & Years are out with a new track. After a few EPs and lots of online listens, their debut album will finally drop in July. The band formed in 2010 when one of the dudes moved from down under to London and began trolling Craigslist “looking for ledge mates to get wankered and jam with,” only for his friend Peter (who’s a proper LAD) to suggest some bantz and a cheeky Nando’s. After a night out, they asked their current lead singer to join the band when the Aussie heard him singing in the shower like an “absolute ledge”. Not sure why he was in the shower too… At least my sister still has a chance of being in a band. Freaking Queen-Bey in the shower.

You’d be silly to not Listen to Feli :-/

BUT, if you listen, realllllly listen, you’ll find some excellent new stuff out there. Sabzi is on his third musical endeavor, and this one’s real solid: Made In Heights. Ya, it’s sexy-synth-pop… Ya, the electro-dreamscape genre is a bit saturated… So what? Good tunes are good tunes. Deal with it. Ambient solo sounds. Pianos. Cellos. Sleepy vocals. All with a synth-twist?? C’mon, son! Turn the lights down – Turn the bass up. The LA-based duo dropped this new track this week.

So Phoebe Ryan is having a solid 2015. The Texas-born LA-transplant already has a fan in Tove Lo (solid pick up!) and just opened for Kitten last week in Brooklyn (so pissed I missed it… ugh Kitten’s the best – goddamn job getting in the way of everything!). She started her musical career in a high school Grateful Dead cover band that even she says “sucked”, but it was her intro to the life. Then she became a writer for bunches (duo Oh Honey, rapper Skizzy Mars & new popper Bea Miller) before recently taking the plunge solo, polar bear style.

Big Data – Clean

The paranoid Brooklyner, Big Data, topped the charts last fall with his track “Dangerous” and is back with a filthy jam, “Clean.” Is it just me, or are his song titles just the tag lines he’s using at that moment for his online dating profile??? Not gonna lie, those are definitely good tags, but these must be rough times for the poor guy.. :-/ Luckily he can get people’s feet moving, that’s enough game to ensure him all the BK-ladies his precious heart desires.

Viceroy – Back at the Start

During winters like these, you gotta find ways to escape. Enter Viceroy and his motto “summertime all the time.” Then again you could just say “Miami” or “Phoenix”… but I guess that doesn’t have as nice a ring to it and would be supes weird chanting that from your DJ booth while in other cities :-/. The San Francisco native has remixed for all that top dogs and is aiming for a sun drenched 2015 dance party. Tickle me surprised when he said his non dance-music inspiration comes from old school hip hop, bands like Rage Against the Machine, and NOFX. Dude had me sold once that sexy sax hit. Sergio Flores would be proud.
