They played Coachella in 2014, only 2 weeks after their first release, and won a Billboard Poll asking fans who had the most memorable live dance music set; beating Calvin Harris, Disclosure, Girl Talk, etc… They played Ultra in Miami this year, and the International Dance Music Awards (IDMAs?? How’d they not call it the MDMAs??) (seriously though… there are WAY too many awards shows! Not EVERYONE deserves a freakin’ participation ribbon. Damn liberal child-huggers not keeping score at soccer games anymore. You know who knows the score? The kid that WON!! Ugh.. between the Emmy’s, Tony’s, Grammy’s, Razzies, AVN’s, Darwin Awards, there’s even a Bloggies(!), 80 different music awards… not to mention country music has an award show every other week, no joke. Turn on the TV. The CMA’s are on, like right now. I’ll wait)… they won best breakthrough artist of 2015. Brand new album out called Pharmacy. It’s quite good.

Wikipedia tells us that nu-disco is a 21st century dance music genre relying on an interest in 70s and early-80s disco and the synthesizer-heavy Euro disco and P-Funk aesthetics (you know ur a badass band when an entire “aesthetic” is named after you). It became mainstream in 2013 with Daft Punk – and then with others trying to be like Daft Punk. The LA outfit Betablock3r usually are producers/remixers, but are out now some original funky nu-disco tunes. Not sure what the name is supposed to represent, but all I can think of is Zach Galifianakis in the Hangover wearing those BlueBlockers with Carlos strapped to his chest. Am I wrong to think that?

And bc of this, I don’t really know anything else, besides, that they have a Grammy, and like, that this song’s pretty dope and they wear cool funky glasses/eye coverers like real futuristic artsy euro folk.

Or is it more a blend of all the boring parts of French, German and Italian kissing? Idk why a band from Manchester calls themselves Swiss Lips, but they’re super cool. The electro-pop dance quintet were originally known as Ten Bears, but changed it when they couldn’t figure out why they’d only get asked to play at gay clubs and the promoters kept asking when the real band was arriving…. Under their new nom de plume (brought the French back – see what I did there? 😉 they’ve played with Bastille, Neon Trees, and other big boys. Check out the new album out now. Or don’t. Whatever.
