The Yard 2016 – Phase I Lineup

Happy The Yard 2016 Announcement Day!

That’s right friends, we just announced phase 1 of the lineup for The Yard, (brought to you by The Most Definitely and Concord Music Group) and it is a doozy. The lineup includes a diverse list of musicians, so there will definitely be music that appeals to a wide variety of musical tastes.

Come join us March 16, 17, and 18 from noon-8 p.m. for 3 insane days of parties in the warm Austin sun. If you’ve never been to The Yard before, now is your chance to discover a ton of new music, for free! If you have been before, then you know the drill-RSVP to as many parties as possible in an attempt to avoid some serious FOMO.

All you have to do to attend The Yard is RSVP. Yes, the parties are FREE. There will also be FREE Green Flash beer to quench your thirst, and FREE Illy coffee to keep you going all day/night.

The Yard is all ages, too, so bring the whole family. Just remember to RSVP.

NEW TUNES ALERT: from one of my favorite new bands, Brighton, UK new-wave dream-poppers, Fickle Friends – out this week with a new 4 track EP – “Velvet.” This stuff is dope on a rope, and if you know me, you know how much I love things on ropes: stuff like soap, candy, tire swings… Regardless, Fickle Friends are sweet (like that rope candy when you bite off both ends of a twizzler and use it as a straw at the movie theater??) and keeping true to their new sound, these new jams are real tasty. Yet to play a US show, but I will be sure to keep y’all posted. They’ve already said it’s in the works…

Fickle Friends – For You (Ghost Beach Remix)

Been down in Central America soaking up some vibes for a bit now and it’s allowed me some perspective. I’d be lying if I told you I took that I didn’t take a few days break from new tunes. The mariachi bands and salsa music playing the rooftops here are enough to make you take some time out and take it all in. It’s also made me realize what’s important, and that is good music is a global truth. While each region or country in this world may have their signature sound, there’s one constant: emotion. It can be displayed in any number of ways, but as long as music evokes emotion, it’s doing it’s job.

It makes sense that my first post since leaving the USA feels very much like home. Coming by way of our partners in numerous crimes: Ghost Beach. They’ve had quite a strong year and I can’t say that I’m not surprised. It’s why we launched our record label to put out their remix EP last year. Now I’m happy to see them making moves all over the place, touring the country and starting their very own label in Crazy Heart Records. With extremely strong releases which they’ve been churning out at break neck pace for the past couple of months with Dart Party, PROM & Fickle Friends. Here we get their take on a Fickle Friends tune and I’m mesmerized. Enjoy.

Fickle Friends – SWIM + (Paperwhite Remix)

This quintet from Brighton, in the UK, has really caught my attention. Fickle Friends own specific brand of synth pop somehow walks a fine line, but in the end hits just the right note.

Enough with the music puns, this song is a lot fun. SWIM is an upbeat, poppy tune that wraps synth, vocals and guitar in perfect harmony. Somewhere, André Allen Anjos, better known as RAC, is kicking himself that he didn’t come up with it first.

I also am really enjoying the Paperwhite Remix of this song. It changes the flavor a bit while keeping the feel of the original. It’s an excellent example of what a good remix can do and I appreciate the dreamy landscape at work in this one.
