Panama first caught my attention about a year ago with single “It’s Not Over” and now the Aussies have put together their sophomore EP Always (via future classic and available for free download). Of course, Always was released while I was away in South America, meaning I am getting to write about titular track, “Always,” about a week late. That being said, “Always” offers a proper kick-off for Panama’s return EP. Frontman Jarrah McCleary is a classically-trained pianist and so it is no surprise that the song opens with a piano. McCleary’s piano and vocals have a heavy presence throughout the entire track, even when the drum and synth elements kick in, which create fairly touching atmospherics. Overall though, “Always” is simply well-packaged electro-pop and only deepens my interest for a full-length from these guys.

Australian electronic trio Seekae have had a lot going for them recently. Most notably, they signed with Future Classic – a label I have often referenced since its roster includes Hayden James, Classixx, Jagwar Ma, Flight Facilities, Flume, and Charles Murdoch, among many others. To mark this achievement, the guys released new song “Another,” which I have been hooked on since first hearing. I hadn’t heard of Seekae before this release, but apparently it is a change in sound with drummer Alex Cameron featuring on vocals. Either way, with a well-crafted slow-burning track like this, I’m very excited to see what Seekae can put together with Future Classic’s backing.

Future Classic has been quite active in the last six months with solid releases from Flume, Classixx*, Panama, and Jagwar Ma. Now enters another Aussie to the mix, Hayden James, whose Permission To Love EP drops today featuring the title song, “Permission To Love,” and two remixes. In light of Random Access Memories just coming out, the funky guitar work and dance grooves apparent on the track seem easily comparable to Daft Punk’s latest work. But regardless of this probably unfair comparison, James’ effortlessly smooth debut has me hooked and is certainly worth a listen.
