5th Annual Sweetlife Festival Lineup Announced

If you haven’t eaten at a Sweetgreen salad shop you’re making a huge mistake. Seriously, I almost missed my train back from DC last month because I made the cabbie stop at Sweetgreen. My loyalty can be attributed equally to their delicious District Cobb as to the impeccable indie rock playlists that bump throughout each store. Sometimes I think they’ve just got TMD | All Day on loop. And just when I thought my lunch couldn’t get any cooler, it goes and throws a carbon neutral/environmentally sustainable music festival featuring all my favorite acts.

Congrats to Sweetgreen on announcing their Fifth Annual Sweetlife Music Festival. It’s going down May 10 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in DC featuring four of my personal faves: Spirit Animal, ASTR, St. Lucia and Bastille. We first fell in love with DC based duo GEMS back in early November of 2012 shortly after hurricane Sandy ravaged NYC, turned life upside down, cause a major blackout and changed the landscape of NYC forever. It was oddly perfect timing in a weird way. They’ve got a dark and haunting sound that just fit those times perfectly. Now fast forward a year later and they’re playing our showcase tomorrow night at Brooklyn Bowl and we couldn’t be more excited to catch them live. I’d go out on a limb here and say Medusa is their strongest release to date.

Just when I think you couldn’t possibly be any DUMBER…. you go and do something like this…. AND TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!

So the hits just keep on coming this CMJ. After you drink a couple coconut waters and crush a bacon egg and cheese on Wednesday morning, start pre-gaming for our 2nd CMJ showcase. If you think we’re letting up after our blowout on Tuesday, think again. We’ve got another killer lineup for you. Going down at our favorite repurposed parking garage turned bowling alley, Brooklyn Bowl.This time we’re lending a helping hand to our bros over at All Things Go. Also lending a hand are the fine people over at BlahBlahBlahScience & The Do NYC.

To say this is an all encompassing lineup is an understatement. We’ve got you covered from rising indie electro acts all the way through the cooler than cool Swedish indie rock staples, The Sounds. You don’t want to miss this one.

GEMS – Pegasus

So last time we heard from GEMS they were a newly formed duo from our nation’s capital with a couple tracks and a lot of promise. Now, they’re well on their way. Right where they should be. It seems like they’re starting to get the attention they deserve. This track continues to push the needle in the right direction. Its dark, synthed out melodies will suck you in. Take a long listen.

We’re loving this track from the newly minted, DC-based duo, GEMS. It’s got that far off feeling of something familiar, but you can’t quite put your finger on it. This is the first we’ve heard of from them and I’m very anxiously awaiting what they have in store for us next. Definitely be on the lookout for them.
