Great. Happy Holidays!

After releasing the instantly catchy “Animals” last month, Nova Scotia based In-Flight Safety is back with a powerfully passionate follow-up track. A departure from their stadium-ready anthem “Animals”, “Caution Horses” is an introspective ballad that weaves it’s way through your brain while awakening your emotions.

As the BPMs come down, frontman John Mullane’s lyrics come to the forefront. He tells us, “I gleaned the name of that song from the side of a horse trailer while driving to Toronto. There was something about that phrase. It stayed with me for weeks and then sure enough a song came out of it. Those horses are beautiful and majestic but, make no mistake about it, they can kick you in the face.” That just about sums it up. Tread lightly, caution horses.

Their album “Conversationalist” is due out this fall via Ooh La La Records.

A couple of weeks ago, we introduced you to In-Flight Safety and the soaring single off their third album. Now we’re back to get a little context on where that song came from with a gorgeously laid out lyric video.

A few words from front man John Mullane. “The wild, wilderness, and nature unchecked is referenced through out the lyrics. And on the album cover. The landscapes in the video are places I spent time recording We Are an Empire in 2009. I became familiar with the beauty and harshness of the landscapes there while recording. In the winter 1000s of deer roam those hills and pastures. It’s about 1 hour from Halifax on the north shore of the Bay of Fundy (which boasts the highest tides in all of the world). It’s pure Nova Scotia to me: scraggly, not leafy, but harsh beauty – from which a lot of this music is born.

We are always thrilled to use Nova Scotia as character. I think because we use it differently. It’s not as colloquial as in other’s vids. It’s a character in ours.”

If you’re not familiar yet, it’s time to get real cozy with In-Flight Safety. Consisting of vocalist, guitarist John Mullane and drummer Glen Nicholson and hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, they’ve come back after a brief hiatus stronger than ever. The Canadian indie rock outfit have been releasing music in Canada and the UK for the better part of a decade. But it’s their third album that has garnered attention Stateside. After their last tour of Europe in 2011, the band took a breather with Glen going to pursue architecture and John started scoring a film. But something brought them back.

John tell us “the new album feels like a fresh start because making music became fun again. We re-discovered wonder. We fought for something that was inspiring, fun, and felt new and honest.” There are hints of a myriad of influences in their work, from Sigor Ros, Spoon, The Smiths & The National to name a few. If I were you I’d get familiar and right quick because they’ve got an album due out September this year via Oh La La Records.
