It’s been an interesting year for the world at large, as well as for me personally. We had a World Cup, an Ebola outbreak, The Fappening, Ferguson, the Sony Hack and an Ice Bucket Challenge. Robin Williams, Maya Angelou and Philip Seymour Hoffman are no longer with us.

I watched a little girl become conscious of her surroundings and turn from a crying baby into an interactive little person. It’s was definitely a little more introspective and thought provoking for me and the songs here seem to reflect that. This list is more downbeat than last year but, if anything, they are more intense and emotional, creating a groove all their own. I hope you enjoy and have a wonderful New Years!

Matt Relton, better known as Kidnap Kid, is an English producer and DJ from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. His latest offering, Like You Used To is an awesome downtempo house track. The vocals are top notch and they keep the song moving with the understated accompaniment that Relton adds. Let’s put it this way, if you didn’t like house before you’ll at least like one song after hearing this.

Things are going well for UK-based Kidnap Kid aka Mark Relton. He just graduated from university, he finished a new EP yesterday and, oh yeah, he won iTunes US Best Electronic Song of 2012 for his debut release “Vehl” on budding indie Black Butter Records. Not bad. And neither is this track off his second release So Close. I’m calling it an expertly executed house head bobber and leaving it at that, which I think he would prefer. As luck would have it, TMD will be bobbing along to his tunes in person when he and TEED come play DC’s U St. Music Hall on June 5. See you there.
