Diplo’s Major Lazer has been hit or miss at times, but the project has always intrigued me; as it has been a little refreshing to see a DJ branch out a bit and institute some interesting collaborations. His latest collaboration comes in the form of track, ‘Lean On’ with French producer DJ Snake and Danish growing pop-sensation MØ. The two offset Diplo’s dancehall tendencies with some subtle trap beats, kudos of DJ Snake (who you will recognize from “Turn Down For What” and “You Know You Like It (remix)“), and an overriding pop influence from MØ. Rumor is that “Lean On” is off Major Lazer’s forthcoming album that will be released in conjunction with his upcoming FXX cartoon.

2014 was a year for the books. In terms of my personal life, it was probably the best one yet – I traveled the world, became heavily invested in the music business, met a ton of incredible people, and carved out a clearer (and less frightening) vision for my future. In terms of music – well, let’s just say that I had a wonderful soundtrack for all of my wonderful experiences.

Although many people view the future of music in a negative light, this year has solidified that music is actually headed in a great direction. We’ve further engaged with music streaming services, witnessed stronger artist-to-fan relationships, and have discovered countless greats through our computers. 2014 has introduced us to so much and has paved the way for what should be an awesome year of music in 2015.

So whether they hit the charts or stayed under the radar, here’s a list of just a few of my favorites. In one way or another, each of these tracks have helped make my 2014 an extremely memorable year – I hope you enjoy them as much as I have! Thank you for reading/listening and have a safe, warm, and wonderful holiday. Cheers!

****NEW CONTRIBUTOR ALERT****
A close friend and I were having a talk yesterday about sub-genres of music, coming to the conclusion that if we could only listen to one sub-genre for the rest of our living days it’d be Scandinavian dream-pop/electro-pop. Seriously, what is in the water in the Baltic Sea? This year alone, the likes of Kate Boy, MØ, and Icona Pop have burst onto the scene following in the footsteps of the many artists before them. Well, that was a long-winded way of saying: add Postijonen to the list. About a month ago, they dropped Supreme, which is easily going to be one of my top songs of the summer. Then they returned yesterday withthe softer and grander On the Run. Give it a listen and keep an eye out for their debut Skyer, due out June 5th stateside.
