Weekend romance in your 20’s is the summer fling of your teens. Unattached from your inbox, phone calls and the fluorescent lights of an office, every Friday comes with the promise of falling in a new kind of love. You resurface on Monday with pockets filled with stories to share and a stupid smile that lasts until you’re back at it. Or, perhaps the weekend your falling in love with is more fantasy than reality. Taking a “weekend” during a busy day to drift off in thought, allowing yourself to detach through dreaming of the romance you’ll never have with the one you want the most.

I know it is only Wednesday, but I am ready for the weekend. And thanks to disco-pop producer Penguin Prison, I’ve got a reason to start dreaming. VÉRITÉ took me to the edge with her gorgeously layered pop gem “Weekend,” and Penguin Prison just pushed me into the infinite abyss with the release of this remix. The lyrics divulge the nostalgia for love’s exhilarating moments, mixed with the reality of how temporary that elation can truly be.

I like this It’s dark. It’s got some edge to it. But it’s still got that signature Penguin Prison sound. I’m not quite sure what it is. I think it’s a combination of the drum fills and the synths. Whatever it is, it continues to make me shake my ass. And really, that’s what it’s all about.

There were some extremely difficult cuts that had to be made and so much so that there could almost be another installment. In any event, I proudly present you TMD’s June Mixtape. Today is a bittersweet day. We have released our first official EP with Ghost Beach – Modern Tongues Remixed. And we have one more track to share with you. I’m pretty damn excited about this one too, as it comes from none other than New York’s own Penguin Prison. We’ve been sitting on this one for over a month, tapping our feet just itching to release this. Finally, here it is. Chris Glover gives us his take on ‘Too Young’ and turns it into a driving disco floorgasm. This has Penguin Prison written all over it, complete with some nice “yeah”s sprinkled in here and there. I love this track and am proud to present it to close out what has been an incredibly fun project.

We’ve been revisiting the Penguin Prison and Oliver backlogs over the past few weeks (for reasons we hope to share with you soon) and this track makes us very excited about what the electronic music scene has become. Somewhat suspended in time, where clothes are tapered yet colorful, we live in a wonderful world where du jour sounds can also be mistaken for The Breakfast Club soundtrack. Well that’s a mouthful isn’t it? So we already put up the original version of this track. But Felix Da Housecat puts his own little spin on this and it is certainly worth a listen. Seriously check it out. You won’t be able to get it out of your head. Side note, I used to love Mountain Dew as a kid. Now they’ve got a label. Now I’ve seen it all.
