Seattle-native turned LA-transplant, Robert Charles Edward DeLong (quad names are bomb btw), started off playing in indie rock bands but was led astray by the rave culture (does that mean he just started doing lots of drugs on school nights at abandoned warehouses?). So he decided to do some genre blending, making sort of indie-electro-pop-experimental-dance stuff, seemingly with some dark undertones (that tickle the nostrils) (I sound like a douchey wine guy talking about the tannins… ugh – shoot me now. I swore I’d never be this). Fun fact, he uses Nintendo Wii and Sega Genesis controllers connected to his laptops and what not to alter and play with his music when doing live sets. Idk about you, but that sounds really cool.

There’s just too much good music going on right now. I’m all kinds of jacked up about this month’s mixtape. If you were worried about me dropping a surprise mixtape last week, fear not. This one might just be better. Last week I was reallly feeling the horizontal disco vibe. This week, we’re all about that nu-disco state of mind. The lead track really sets the tone for the rest of the mixtape. We’re still all about summer and now we’re trying to get that weekend dance party started a day early. I’ve always wondered how one could even remix Robert DeLong. The guy is on another planet, musically. I caught his set at Governors Ball this past weekend, and he is so fun to watch. In a day and age of just hitting play, he actually PLAYS music. By himself. It’s really impressive to catch. I highly recommend it. Anyways, now I know that he can in fact be remixed. It just takes someone like Golden Pony to pull it off. Enjoy the fruits.

The music scene is back in the saddle and the buzz is building for Robert Delong. His debut album drops Feb 5th and i gotta admit…im excited. Homeboy’s just so damn relevant right now. Dance-pop, electro, whatever you might be tempted to call it, dont. This isn’t a “hey, look at me, I sound-like-everybody-else” situation, but “hey, i see y’all, respek…pardon my Sega joystick”. I like the Billboard review best…a Junkyard Jam Session, nice. The album is called Just Movement, need I say more.

Robert Delong’s solo mission absolutely slayed Santos Party House last night at the All Things Gold CMJ showcase. The music stands out on its own but the live show will “basically…change how you feel, about everything.” See for yourself.
