Countless remixes have been done of Sam Smith’s powerful track, Stay With me. Many are worth a listen, but few truly harness your attention like this one does. The NYC producer, Prince Fox, slides us into the track with a quiet intro paying homage to Sam Smith’s golden pipes. But don’t let the start deceive you… Around 1:15 the beat finally kicks and we have ourselves a sneaky banger. Not only does Prince Fox do justice to the original material, he takes the track to another level entirely. Check it out. Loving the name by the way.

This is a classic Le Youth remix. They have taken a nice Sam Smith track, slowed it way down and made a pop song into something completely different. The intro starts out with a nice R&B vibe but then it shifts into something between R. Kelly and Chromeo. It’s really an interesting sound they come up with and something that I think really works well. It’s difficult to really categorize this remix of Money On My Mind but it’s damn good, so take a listen and tell us where you think it falls.

And if you like that check some Le Youth versatility with his remix of Chromeo’s Come Alive. It’s a dancefloor burner!

Excuuuuuuse me for being the 170,000,001st Naughty Boy – La La La YouTube play. Sometimes you get in your own zone and stuff slips through the cracks. Not that the original is really in the sweet spot, but I should at least know what the f is going on in the world. (Come to think of it, I haven’t even seen that Gangnam Style video from last year…oh well…FML.) I this case, though, you had me at Sam Smith + Oliver Nelson. I just get excited when two artists on top of their respective games collaborate for a remix. Im just a sucker for that shit. It also helps that lately i’ve had a serious hankering for some Nu Disco.

Right now I am in a rather introspective mood. I am not sure if it’s all the David Foster Wallace and Don DeLillo I’ve been reading, the rainy weather, the Marc Maron podcasts I’ve been listening to, or what… but point is, I’m in a mood and that mood is well-suited by this new song, “Safe With Me” by UK artist, Sam Smith. He featured prominently on Disclosure‘s track “Latch” and is now set to release his own EP later this summer. At times, Smith’s vocals push into serious R&B territory, which is a bit much for me. But, overall, the thundering bass (like at 1:07), James Blake similarities, subtle piano-work, skittering beat, and expert layering from Two Inch Punch have me hooked. Give it a spin below.
