Whoa! This is going to be fun. You have heard of KOPPS, but perhaps can’t pick them out of a lineup. That’s because the Rochester duo, guilty of slaying the blogeratti with various Joywave collaborations, will be making their NYC live debut at this show! Rumor has it, lead Patricia Patrón and beats counterpart Kyle O, are particularly excited to be performing their self-described “Fuck Jams” in a former gentlemen’s club. Say no more…I’m all about this.

Next, as the last stop on their Northeast tour with Seasick Mama, Walking Shapes will unleash a captivating brand of rock-n-roll that I can only describe as Radiohead meets Foals. The elaborate strings and vocals make this show mesmerizing.

Did someone say Seasick Mama? Singer/songwriter/model Marial Maher and her band have been causing quite a stir in the NYC live scene for almost a year now. Brilliant songwriting, unbridled theatrics, impeccable vocals, outrageous outfits and bountiful tattoo sleeves define this remarkably high class show. As the final stop on her 3 week long tour, this is setting up to be quite the homecoming!

Seasick Mama – Quit Your Job

I saw the Seasick Mama show again last night and am here to tell you she is the one to watch in 2014. Model/actor/singer/songwriter, Mariel Maher flawlessly delivers on each in this amazing live set. It’s a borderline religious experience that includes a captivating performance of one of my favorite songs, Quit Your Job. It’s not just an epic ballad reminiscent of Florence Welch circa 2010, but a literal call to action. “If you’re job sucks then quit” she preaches toward the end of her set, followed by a polite yet wildly logical edict, “don’t become the things you hate”. Now what makes more sense than that?

And, she released this edit a few months ago that sounds more like it the live version.

Congrats to Brooklyn’s own Seasick Mama on her Tip Top Shape EP release today! I haven’t seen the live set yet, but i’m looking forward to the day I do. I hear its incredible. Bite Bullet, which I describe as Gwen Stefani meets Sara Bareilles with an inescapable homage to TLC (hint: lyrics + 2:11), is my favorite track on the EP but I’ll understand if you feel different. The record is kinda stacked top to bottom, so take your pick.

Seasick Mama came onto my radar a few months ago out of nowhere. And ever since then I can’t get her out of my head. There’s something about her that is so alluring. While it could be easy to chalk it up to her model good looks, there’s way more to it than that. There is an honesty about her. There’s something about her that’s familiar and mysterious at the same time. And yes, she’s also gorgeous. But she’s got some chops too. Her music is a blend of reggae, ska and rock. It’s unique and I can’t say I’ve heard much like it lately. She just goes for it. And this tune is another bullet in the chamber. It’s well worth a listen, and the video itself is also quite impressive. Fellow Fordham alum Jay Bulger continuing to knock it out of the park. Cheers.

Seasick Mama – Moon Killer w/ Cayce

Seasick Mama is an experimental model slash songstress from Brooklyn who’s sophmore EP drops Sep 3rd (release party flyer below). I’d like to define her genre, but it just cant be done. Perhaps a reference to Florence and the Machine is in order? The album, Tip Top Shape was produced by David Sitek (TV on the Radio), Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet) and Peter Wade (MNDR). According to Mama, her EP “takes on a new sound, a new perspective, and an entirely new voice.” I’m kinda pumped for that.
