Breaking News: LANY frontman can now afford sleeves

About a year and a half ago I posted LANY’s first mega hit single “ILYSB” (I Love You So Bad) and info on how they started this band as an incognito Soundcloud account, and actually thought they were getting catfished when some rando UK labels came a’knockin (they weren’t). Now LANY is selling out shows from LA to NY (get it? LANY… no, for real, that’s what their name means. Look it up if you don’t believe me. They wanted a four letter name, and considered TTYL for a hot minute, then decided they “didn’t want to be 13 for the rest of our lives“. Smart choice.). So I guess, you’re welcome LANY, for getting your name out there and singlehandedly racking up your Spotify listens in to the millions. After appearing on FSL, their career skyrocketed (!! not surprising though really) supporting acts like Ellie Goulding, Twin Shadow, X Ambassadors, Halsey, and a whole slew of festivals. Well, their new single has a cool name too, and also the phrase I say when chickenheads come a’cluckin: “yeah, babe, no way.” And if you haven’t heard “WHERE THE HELL ARE MY FRIENDS” (apologies on the all caps :-/), I’ve included it too.

The Weeknd – Kygo remix

This 25 year old Canuck of Ethiopian descent, The Weeknd, isn’t a new artist, nor is this a new song, but since he has new stuff coming out, that got me listening to his “older” stuff (its so 2014…). And this Kygo remix is bomb (and if you know me I’m not really a remix guy… so this is kinda a big deal to me. Just sayin’). This track’s been on repeat for about a week or so even though it has about a bagillion listens already, figured it should get posted. I can do mainstream too, ok!? I just prefer not to. Don’t get used to it.

Viceroy – Back at the Start

During winters like these, you gotta find ways to escape. Enter Viceroy and his motto “summertime all the time.” Then again you could just say “Miami” or “Phoenix”… but I guess that doesn’t have as nice a ring to it and would be supes weird chanting that from your DJ booth while in other cities :-/. The San Francisco native has remixed for all that top dogs and is aiming for a sun drenched 2015 dance party. Tickle me surprised when he said his non dance-music inspiration comes from old school hip hop, bands like Rage Against the Machine, and NOFX. Dude had me sold once that sexy sax hit. Sergio Flores would be proud.

MOTHXR – Stranger

In 2014, a random song was uploaded by an unintentionally mysterious band named MOTHXR. It rose the ranks of Hype Machine without anyone knowing that it was fronted by Dan Humphrey of Gossip Girl, aka Penn Badgely. Seems GG was a better place for musicians to develop than actors (Taylor Momsen is a badass rocker and Leighton Meester actually makes really nice music). And if you were neither actor nor musician, you got to marry Ryan Reynolds… Not a bad consolation.

Honne: Warm On A Cold Night

Duo from South West England, Honne, are delivering smooth and sensual ear sex, for late night drives on rain slick streets, or after-party loungin’ with a drink and a cigarette with the lights down low. College mates, Andy and James (they don’t disclose their surnames) came together and made Honne (and that delicious beard – the other dude’s still growing his). A Japanese expression, “honne” and “tatemae” describes the contrast and distance between one’s true feelings and desires (honne) and that of one’s public behavior and opinions, or facade (tatemae). They say the name was specifically chosen to match their music. Pretty cool factoid. Now you know.
