If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, The Hood Internet makes some great tracks. We post about these guys all the time because they really bring the heat. R U Nosetalgic is no different. I love the synth sample over rap verses. The ASTR melody over this track is really perfect and is my favorite since Polish City. Check it out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

Ohhhh The Hood Internet. When are they going to stop bringing the hits? I don’t know, I hope never. This one is a line drive right up the middle. Sorry for the baseball reference. Here they take the already wildly praised Arcade Fire single Reflektor and sprinkle in some shimmer and of course some INXS. What else can a girl ask for? Our favorite mash up masters, The Hood Internet, are back and dropping gems. Chromeo is teasing their new album like crazy and I can’t wait. The one track they’ve released, Over Your Shoulder, has spawned a number of different versions and The Hood Internet provide us with one of the best. Here they seamlessly weave Chromeo’s samples with B. o. B. and 2 Chainz vocals creating something entirely new, while leaving the components eminently recognizable. I freaking love it.

Mr. Oizo, of Flatbeat fame, has also dropped an awesome remix this Chromeo single. If don’t know who Mr. Oizo is you need to do some reading, legendary. His remix goes a little oldschool and weaves in some serious samples and a beat that land somewhere between DJ Shadow, Groove Armada and vintage Mr. Oizo. Get some! Both of these versions bring something very different to the table but both serve to increase my desire to get my hands on Chromeo’s new album and the whole ecosystem of tracks that go along with it.

Hawaii Mix

Hi boys and girls, I’ve been a little busy for the past couple of weeks moving cross country and taking a little trip to Hawaii. Demands on my time have limited my posts but in every cloud there is a silver lining. In this particular case, the Hawaii Mix is it! I’ve popped together a few songs that have been the soundtrack to my quest to drink every rum and pineapple drink this small island (Kauai) can produce. They’ve done me a good turn (the music and the drinks) so I thought I should share them with you. Hopefully, they can bring a ray of sunshine into your office and if you can’t get to Hawaii right now, it’s the next best thing.

I’ve started slow here, like you would if you were up as the sun was just peeking over the horizon. The tempo climbs as we move in the the early afternoon and slows down for a delicious sunset. There are some mellow tracks and some bangers in there, something for everyone! If you don’t have time for the whole mix in one sitting I would especially recommend Always by Panama. It’s not to be missed. Enjoy the rainbow and the jams and as they say here in Hawaii, Mahalo!

We’re no strangers to Joywave around these parts and when I saw this remix by the best in the business at bringing together disparate sounds I knew it was going to be good. From the men who have seamlessly blended Tyga and Neon Indian and Phoenix and R. Kelly, the guys from The Hood Internet have dialed back the driving bass and given it a different personality entirely. I enjoy the increased synth-y dance vibe. This feels a little cheap – but you know the quickest way to my heart is via Robots. And the only way you’re going to get me to talk about Kanye is if you throw some Robots along side. ‘Doing It Right’ just might be the best track off Random Access Memories. I hate ‘The Good Life’ – but this kind of works. I kind of can’t stop listening to it. I AM NOT AN ADVOCATE FOR DAFT PUNK MASHUPS. But this works and I love the Hood Internet.

Side note: Random Access Memories came out for real today. Go cop it.

If you were at Coachella on Saturday anxiously waiting for Daft Punk to come out and melt your face, then you definitely saw that knee buckling curveball that was R. Kelly coming out on stage with Phoenix for the weirdest / best live mashup of all time. So many emotions were running through us disbelief, laughter, disapointment but ultimately – I saw it for what it was. Phoenix politely giving everyone the finger. Every person was talking about Daft Punk dropping by their set and it was almost doomed to fail unless they did just that. Phoenix is an awesome band on their own. They don’t need Daft Punk to drop by to melt faces. So they brought in R. Kelly. BAM. How bout that? I like it.

So The Hood Internet wins the Daft Punk Award. If you’re wondering what the Daft Punk award is, it’s an award I literally just made up 32 seconds ago. So about 3 weeks ago, Daft Punk aired a 15 second snippet of what people think could be new music from their HIGHLY anticipated album coming out this year. What ensued was a modern day goldrush for who could take that snippet, chop it, loop it and make some “new music”. Well, The Hood Internet takes the new Justin Timberlake and puts it together with the new Daft Punk and it’s actually quite awesome. Listen up.
