Right around this time last year, I was introduced to one of my favorite Brooklyn-based trios. Instantly attracted to their sound, I fell in love with Wet and listened to their 2013 self-titled debut EP on repeat all year long.

So if you’re anything like me – meaning that you’ve been waiting for Wet to release another killer track to love – you’re in luck. With their signature synth sounds, singer Kelly Zutrau moves us with her beautifully delicate voice in “Deadwater.” Pulling from influences such as TLC and Usher, “Deadwater” possesses a ‘90s feel with a touch of R&B. This powerful song is a classic Wet track – it’s so unbelievably relatable and Zutrau’s charming voice carries emotion and feelings that tug at your heartstrings.

Wet has been busy crafting their new debut LP, Don’t You, and it’s expected to drop sometime this year via Columbia – we can’t wait. In the meantime, take a listen to “Deadwater” below.

It seems there’s been a lot of Wet going on as of late on these here pages. But that’s just how the cookie crumbles sometimes. This time around we get a delicious remix from UK based TÅCHES taking Wet’s vocals and spinning them into a haunted late night dance floor closer. Enjoy

So much to be said about this song and the artists behind it. First, Branchez will forever have a huge hold on me after last summer’s explosive bootleg release of “Stay“. I can say with not an ounce of regret that I am responsible for 1 million of the nearly 3 million Soundcloud plays… no, but really. Next, Wet sucked me in after a hypnotic Popshop performance this past February. The Brooklyn trio moved me with their unique R&B meets electro-pop flavor, and I haven’t looked back since. Then, worlds collided when Branchez totally electrified Wet’s emotionally-charged, tantalizing tune “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl” this spring. The New York City producer amplified the beauty of Wet’s original track with his open-minded rhythm and beat, and we thank him so much for that.

So, finally, enjoy your Thursday with this throwback (#TBT, I don’t like it as much as you — but it is what it is, you know?)… it will make tomorrow’s trip out to Montauk feel that much closer, and Wet’s upcoming performance at The Surf Lodge that much better.

I was turned on to the little known trio, Wet, back in April when I saw them live at a modest venue in middle of nowhere Maine. I was absorbed by the originally and purity of their sound, in particular, the voice of lead singer Kelly Zutrau. The band has kept us in the dark for the past ten months, releasing no material, until now! Move me is their new downtempo pop jam and it lives up to all the hype Wet has built up. It’s more easy listening than banger material… a perfect track for mellow moods/hangovers/late night subway rides, and any other related categories. Listen below and check out the rest of Wet’s arsenal on soundcloud.

I don’t live in New York anymore and it makes me a little sad sometimes. I have to stop myself from saying ‘The City’ when people ask me where I’m from and it definitely hits home when I discover another homegrown band that I didn’t get to see perform when I lived there. Wet is a trio from Brooklyn, beyond that there isn’t much information about them available. I like to think they’re some sort of pirate club, drinking tons of beer and saying “aaaarrrrggg” to people, but hey, that’s just me.

What I do know about them is they make some great music. The vocals on You’re the Best are what grabbed me first. They’re layered and modified and remind me a little of LoveLife’s, Your New Beloved. The guitar and drum parts may seem simple at first but they are exactly what they need to be to elegantly complement the singing. I really enjoy the lyrics too “Baby you’re the best, we’ll figure out the rest.” See, they do what they want, they’re totally pirates. They’re just soulful pirates. I love it.

And the award for most experimental remix of 2014 goes to…Wet for Cardiknox – Technocolor Dreaming. Im a big fan of experimental production. In fact, yesterday I found myself on a Beat Culture/Tame Impala/Animal Collective binge, so this could not have come at a better time. Wet has taken one of my favorite pop tracks from 2013 and riddled it with highly calculated yet seemingly haphazard samples anchored by my favorite chorus-ish phrase so far this year. “Am I just am I am I just am I am I just?” Of course I am. Next question.
