It’s been an interesting year for the world at large, as well as for me personally. We had a World Cup, an Ebola outbreak, The Fappening, Ferguson, the Sony Hack and an Ice Bucket Challenge. Robin Williams, Maya Angelou and Philip Seymour Hoffman are no longer with us.

I watched a little girl become conscious of her surroundings and turn from a crying baby into an interactive little person. It’s was definitely a little more introspective and thought provoking for me and the songs here seem to reflect that. This list is more downbeat than last year but, if anything, they are more intense and emotional, creating a groove all their own. I hope you enjoy and have a wonderful New Years!

Hadn’t been back to my college town for nearly three years, since I graduated in 2011. If you’ve never been to Dallas, get yourself there. Actually, if you’ve never been to Texas, find a reason to go. I am in major recovery mode this Monday morning after a whirlwind 4-day trip down South. Between sharing old stories and running into my favorite faces, my mind flooded with flashbacks every corner I turned…. I need a vacation from that vacation. I filled my belly with bourbon and beer, fried chicken and biscuits, and of course, some of mama’s old sweet tea.

So, right now, what I need is soothing tunes to keep me mellow and afloat. My inbox is filled to the brim, but I am still humming and not quite ready to touch back down. Zimmer transforms Australian duo Wunder Wunder’s galactic pop song into a soft, blissed-out dreamscape… together, their sound is taking me right to where I want to be. The kick of the beat gently moves my hips while the vocal airiness lifts my spirits above the gloom of this rainy city day. Zimmer notes under the track info on his Soundcloud page, “close your eyes and ride away with me.” Sir, you’ve already taken me over the horizon.

Wunder Wunder – Coastline

Wunder Wunder is the conception of Australian, LA based music producers, Aaron Shanahan and Benjamin Plant. Coastline is their first effort at bringing us a single and I’m loving it. Their Facebook page lays it down:

After many years of producing and writing electronic music, the duo have given birth to a new project that adventures into their love of colourful psychedelic ’60s and ’70s pop.

Having spent the last two years relocated in Los Angeles, an overflow of inspiration left them with a combination of everything from soft, blissed-out dreamscapes to the hot Californian sun burn’s that will be felt with their first single ‘Coastline’.

With an amalgamation of lo-fi squelch, dreamy guitars and warping synths, Wunder Wunder is a true aural trip into the west coast sun. Through a kaleidoscope of melodies, they provide the sonic colour and boldness that most music seems to forget.

I’m not sure I could have said it any better myself so I think I’ll leave it at that, besides the fact that I am looking forward to hearing a lot more from this duo.
