Summer might be over but but don’t tell that to TMD alums Night Drive. Cause they’re keeping the dream alive with their brand new remix of Goldroom‘s “Till Sunrise”. While Night Drive’s been busy in the studio producing their new album they stopped the presses when they heard the airy vocal stems featuring Mammals. The two producers decided to make use of the studio time and put their own spin on the track. Adding live bass, guitars, and layered with silky electronic textures, Night Drive has created a unique track that stands all on its own. The remix picks up the pace with a soothing pulse of energy that glides along the top of a soft undercurrent to the end of summer.

Keep your eyes open for the band’s new single, “Young Rivals” releasing early next month with an official remix by ASTR and official music video by their ongoing visual collaborators, Lobo Sucio Creative.

Rarely, and I mean VERY rarely is that guy reaction wrong. And here we are; with a sultry vibed out remix from TMD homies Night Drive. They’ve taken a tune from The Penelopes and totally made it their own. For a frame of reference the original is below as well, which is totally solid in its own right in a John Hughes on acid kind of way.

So that was 2013 huh? Pretty solid year. I’ve been working on this list all year. Full disclosure, if you’re looking for the obvious “Best of 2013″ list, this is not for you. This is more about the tracks that might have slipped through the cracks, the tracks that never quite got the attention they deserved. Some of them are more obvious than others (read: Daft Punk). While others, need to be heard (read: Streets of Laredo).

How do you boil down a year to 15 songs? In my case, you don’t. You make a soundcloud best of and a Spotify Best of list. We had a banner year personally, professionally and musically. A lot of firsts that I am extremely thankful for. Rather than sit here and wax poetic on what was definitely the best year of my life, why don’t you just sit back and listen to these tunes that helped make 2013 so special?

And then I made a totally different Spotify playlist so you got hours of music to listen to.

It’s getting to be that time of year. The weather’s colder, days are shorter and we just might start seeing some snow hit the ground sooner rather than later. Like all seasons, I love winter. Part of the beauty of living in the northeast is that you actually get 4 seasons. And when each one rolls around, that’s my favorite season at the time. So get out your ski boots and neon onesie. It’s time to warm things up.

Now I’m REALLY excited! Last month we SOLD OUT The Knitting Factory with Betty Who, Joywave & Future Screens. Well now it’s time to announce our 2013 CMJ Lineup. It seems like every show we’re going bigger. This time is no different. It’s CMJ and we’re not pulling any punches. We’ve got eitght (8) bands lined up for you and I could not be more excited about this lineup. Each band hand picked from the pages of TMD and brought right to the streets of Brooklyn. This show is going to be all time. And to up the ante, we partnered with our West Coast blogger from another mother Beautiful Buzzz to really turn things up.

Here’s our lineup:

Strange Talk
Little Daylight
Joywave
Bad Suns
ASTR
Night Drive
Story of The Running Wolf
Badboxes

Lineup Breakdown:

Strange Talk We caught the Aussie rockers last year at CMJ and we were blown away by their live set. The energy is amazing and they might sound better live than they do on their albums. To say you’re in for a treat is an understatement. I’m honored and so stoked to have them be a part of our showcase!

We fell in love with Little Daylight at first listen. Based out of Brooklyn they are in the midst of taking over the electro pop world with their soaring synths and sexy vocals. Couldn’t be more excited to catch this set.

Rochester, NY based Joywave has been in our sites for a while now and when we had them play our sold out show two weeks ago, it was very clear that they needed an encore. Their unique brand of electro rock and hip hop is undeniably delicious and impossible not to dance to.

Bad Suns comes to us all the way from Los Angeles and I’m very excited for their live set. They remind me of a throwback to Incubus in only the best of ways. The first notes of their hit ‘Cardiac Arrest’ brought me back to a time and a place. Blending modern pop with late 90’s rock never sounded so god damn good.

What can I say about ASTR. They are as New York as it gets. They lit the internet on fire earlier this year with their haunting smash, ‘Operate’ and the rest is history. They blend hip hop, R&B and electro into a sexy new sound that has got Rihanna watching the throne. Don’t sleep on this.

What up Night Drive?! You may be familiar with the Austin based duo from our label when they remixed Steel Phantoms back in August. Or maybe you’ve copped their insanely good EP that was recently released. Either way, there is no denying their talent. I caught them at Glasslands on Friday, and when I say you’re in for a treat, that’s an understatement.

Story of The Running Wolf: I actually don’t know where to begin when talking about this LA duo. ‘Stratospheric’ is in the running for song of the year. And as for video of the year, it takes it in a land slide. We’ve been trying to get these LA homeboys to play the East Coast for almost a year. FINALLY they make their NYC debut. We could not be more thrilled to have them.

What can I tell you about Pittsburgh’s Badboxes? I can tell you that if you miss this set, you’ve failed. They played our August show and their energy is unmatched. Their debut single JSMN has been on loop for months now and it’s still as good as the first time I heard it. So excited to see these guys again. Trust, you need to be there.

But wait, there’s more. Just when you thought I was finished, I’m gonna punch you in the mouth with some Dart Party. Resident DJ to the stars. To say we’re lucky to have the enigmantic savant behind the ones and twos is to like saying I’m happy we have oxygen. It’s just absolutely CRUCIAL. His infectious sets keep the people moving and he’s building a strong track record for face melting after parties and bring the JAMS all night long. You’ve been warned. (I’m not really going to punch you in the mouth. That was just hyperbole.)

We’ve also got Deli Radio, Dos Equis, BK Booth & Solé Bicycles on board as some super rad sponsors to help really turn this thing out.

WHEN: Tuesday October 15, 7pm
WHO: All ages
WHERE: The Knitting Factory

Thank God there’s something to get me through this most depressing post Labor Day Tuesday. And nothing could be more perfect than a new EP from our favorite time traveling synth playing secret agents, Night Drive. We’ve heard two of the five tracks in ‘Drones’ & ‘Sea of Light’. But my new favorite is definitely ‘After Dark’. I just can’t get enough of the driving bass line and the beat. It’s the perfect cure for this post summer blues I’ve got right now. But really, each track off this EP is a 10. With each release, the Austin duo is building more and more street cred and more and more followers. Can’t wait to catch them when they come through NYC in a couple weeks. Be sure to check them in a city near you. Listen to ‘After Dark’ and stream the whole EP below.

I’m feeling all kinds of sexy right now. I just can’t shake this deep house I got going through my veins. I’m going off the deep house deep end. Never have I been in so deep. And never have I loved it so much. So, this isn’t actually our monthly mixtape. This is an extra special mixtape that I just had to share with you before your weekend hits. This makes me want to turn it out. You should probably not listen to this at work, cause it’s game over once you do. Put it on when it’s the other kind of business time. Enjoy. This, like many before it, is my favorite mixtape I have ever made.

Sea of Light is the first featured single off our favorite Austin band, Night Drive’s upcoming EP release. We fell in love the Austin duo with their release of ‘Drones’ and the love affair continues straight into the 80’s tinged disco lit night with Sea of Light. If you’re still unfamiliar with the boys, I think they said it best:

Night Drive is the type of music you would hear on a car stereo if Giorgio Moroder and Ray Bradbury were driving late at night through a buzzing metropolis. Inspired by bygone era of glamour and excess, kalioscopic neon lights, Studio 54 and Tony Wilson’s Hacienda, the band pulls influence from acts such as Brian Eno, New Order, OMD, The Drums and LCD Soundsystem to name a few. Night Drive rides a nu-wave of fast-tempoed, synth-based electronic sounds driven by rich guitar melodies and arresting vocal hooks.

Rumors abound that they’ve cooked up a ridiculously amazing remix for our label, but you know the drill, I can’t comment on that. You’ll just have to wait and see.

I stumbled across this in one of the e-mail blasts that I am bombarded with. I am exceptionally glad that I actually took the time to poke through this one because Night Drive’s EP is really something worth listening to. Molly tackled the single the other day but the other songs add depth and different interpretations of that awesome original. The band’s own description on soundcloud grabbed me almost as much as the initial mix of drones

Night Drive is the type of music you would hear on a car stereo if Giorgio Moroder and Ray Bradbury were driving late at night through a buzzing metropolis. Inspired by bygone era of glamour and excess, kalioscopic neon lights, Studio 54

I don’t know about you but that sound pretty good to me. Then I heard the songs and I was really blown away! Each one sounds unique and the EP provides a little something for everyone. From and pounding 80’s beat to a more dance-y version to a very 8-bit kind of sound and the pulse pounding dance floor finale this EP just demonstrates what good remixing can do and make one sound into 4 unique pieces. The second one is my favorite but that’s the fun, choose the one you enjoy the most!

Night Drive has a delicious debut track here that will get your blood pumping. Just imagine all your favorite 80s bands decked out in leather jackets (complete with arm tassels) and super-dark shades, glamming out some rich guitar and synth sounds. I’m digging it. Deep.
