If you follow Joywave on any social media you’ll know that frontman Daniel Armbruster quite the jokester, which is why we aren’t surprised that their latest video for live favorite “Destruction” tells a story packed with humor. Directed by Phil Andelmon – who’s done videos for Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Jay Z, and countless others – “Destruction” tells the story of the entrance of band’s newest member – an MP3 player – and the turmoil that follows.

And if you’ve seen Joywave live this past year, you’d know that the band both opens and closes with “Destruction”, so in proper fashion, the song plays for a second time during the drawn-out credits.

Peep it below and be sure to catch the Rochester band while they tour with Metric this spring, tickets for which can be purchased here.

Yesterday, Max shared a video with a some nice Weird Science references. Lo and behold, a day later I’ve found another video with a classic 80’s reference. This time Chromeo team up with Toro y Moi (who is high on my list of people to see live) and delivered this homage to Mannequin. Now, there’s no Kim Catrall in this one (lets be glad of that) but it’s a pretty amusing interpretation for this music video.

Even though it starts out like a Mini Cooper commercial (everyone has to get paid right?) there some nice touches here. Toro y Moi as the janitor and P Thugg with his grills as the sleepy security guard are pretty amusing. Also, Let’s not overlook the excellent song. Come Alive is a light, dance-y tune that just doesn’t get old. I think this is my favorite single so far, off of Chromeo’s upcoming album.

Also, as an added bonus, check out this remix of Come Alive from The Magician.

Sooooo, I was watching an episode of Airwolf this morning. I probably should have been doing other things but I couldn’t help myself. Airwolf is fantastically kitschy but undeniably entertaining. The theme song is a piece of 80’s gold with its winding snyth sound underscoring the whole composition. Needless to say, it was a glorious morning.

This experience made me think of another 80’s theme song that I still love to hear, which was played during the opening credits of a show called Danger Bay. I know not as many people have seen this particular production, and they don’t need to, but the theme song had that quintessential 80’s feel. After listening to these two tracks, my nostalgia for the 80’s was running at a fever pitch. And then, I heard the bomb that Lenno dropped, called Rebirth. Wow, this hard charging, un-apologetically synth-centric, masterpiece is awesome. If you’ve had any desire to indulge in a little nostalgia lately, this song will either sate your desire or push you so far over the edge you’ll have a hard time confirming what decade you are in. Be aware, after hearing this you may have to watch Karate Kid, Rambo, Vision Quest, Flight of the Navigator, Tron and Rad before you’ll feel back to your usual self. I’m about half way through and I’ll tell you, it’s worth it! Enter at your own risk.

I have included both theme songs so you can fully immerse yourself.

While plumbing the depths for something new I came across this sweet video today. We are big fans of synth-y, 80’s glam-pop style videos here at TMD and this is a perfect example of just that. Leverage Models sound a little like what would happen if Talking Heads and Duran Duran had a baby with The Presets, which sounds kind of amazing to me (although logistically awkward). While Cooperative Extension is not new, it is excellent, as is the video. They’ve had a few shows in New York, which I haven’t been able to catch but am now kicking myself for not going to. So I just have to look forward to the album, which is scheduled to be released on October, 1st on Hometapes. Drools…

Vacationer- “Trip”

New video for Vacationer’s sun-soaked single “Trip.” The video stays true to the tropical, laidback feel of the song as it is given a Hawaiian retro vacation vibe, shot by Dave Homcy. Whether you have travel plans or not, this is a perfect summer jam. The band’s Facebook bio promises music with “the sole purpose of relaxing the listener and sending their mind on a well-deserved trip. No airfare needed, no reservations.”

posted by Alex V.

Seriously digging this video. And song too.
