So, you need a tune to blast off to at the start of SXSW? The Chainsmokers remix of Chromeo‘s Jealous is going to be gracing dance floors for years to come.

It gives me the shivers and I can’t help but think of the first time I heard Eric Prydz, Call On Me. The wonderful balance between the original vocals and the Chainsmokers electronic sample make this an irresistible, toe tapping, classic. Just like their remix of Smallpool’s Dreaming, the Chainsmokers knock another one out of park again, home run!

Chromeo – Come Alive (ft. Toro y Moi) [Video]

Yesterday, Max shared a video with a some nice Weird Science references. Lo and behold, a day later I’ve found another video with a classic 80’s reference. This time Chromeo team up with Toro y Moi (who is high on my list of people to see live) and delivered this homage to Mannequin. Now, there’s no Kim Catrall in this one (lets be glad of that) but it’s a pretty amusing interpretation for this music video.

Even though it starts out like a Mini Cooper commercial (everyone has to get paid right?) there some nice touches here. Toro y Moi as the janitor and P Thugg with his grills as the sleepy security guard are pretty amusing. Also, Let’s not overlook the excellent song. Come Alive is a light, dance-y tune that just doesn’t get old. I think this is my favorite single so far, off of Chromeo’s upcoming album.

5th Annual Sweetlife Festival Lineup Announced

If you haven’t eaten at a Sweetgreen salad shop you’re making a huge mistake. Seriously, I almost missed my train back from DC last month because I made the cabbie stop at Sweetgreen. My loyalty can be attributed equally to their delicious District Cobb as to the impeccable indie rock playlists that bump throughout each store. Sometimes I think they’ve just got TMD | All Day on loop. And just when I thought my lunch couldn’t get any cooler, it goes and throws a carbon neutral/environmentally sustainable music festival featuring all my favorite acts.

Congrats to Sweetgreen on announcing their Fifth Annual Sweetlife Music Festival. It’s going down May 10 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in DC featuring four of my personal faves: Spirit Animal, ASTR, St. Lucia and Bastille. Sam Smith – Money On My Mind (Le Youth Remix) + Bonus

This is a classic Le Youth remix. They have taken a nice Sam Smith track, slowed it way down and made a pop song into something completely different. The intro starts out with a nice R&B vibe but then it shifts into something between R. Kelly and Chromeo. It’s really an interesting sound they come up with and something that I think really works well. It’s difficult to really categorize this remix of Money On My Mind but it’s damn good, so take a listen and tell us where you think it falls.

And if you like that check some Le Youth versatility with his remix of Chromeo’s Come Alive. It’s a dancefloor burner!

Chromeo – Night By Night (Oliver Nelson Mix)

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? It wasn’t my plan, but man, but cheers to the person who put this one together. The mixing of two of our favorite artists is always a fortuitous occasion. This remix is no exception. Chromeo has just finished up their forthcoming album and this whets the appetite for their upcoming release, but this song deserves its own by-line. We love Oliver Nelson here and have been enjoying his excellent remixes for quite some time including, Mikko Echo – Kids, Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith – La La La, Suit and Tie, well, you get the idea.

Nelson has given this Chromeo booty shaker his full attention and damn if he hasn’t done a bang up job. Here he’s slowed it down changing up the whole flavor of the song. Oliver’s gone deep and created a remix that sounds like Chromeo wrapped in Chromeo. It’s almost like he mixed Night By Night with a little bit of 100% to the to create something extra Chromeo-ee. Much like a deep fried Oreo, no one is complaining because it’s delicious. Check out this track and if you don’t like it, well then you’re just not invited to my Chromeo party. Max and Tim, I’ll expect your RSVP’s soon.

That Girl With Dark Eyes – Hey Baby + Bonus

The other day several people started following me on Soundcloud. Since this happens infrequently I like to see who these strange people, with such discerning taste are. I am especially curious when they have more than three followers themselves. This particular investigation into the offending profile has revealed musical riches for everyone to enjoy! That Girl with Dark Eyes has a lot to share with us.

Tiffany Garrett Sotomayor (TGWDE) happens to enjoy many of the same tracks as all of the good folks here at TMD but ALSO has made some outstanding music of her own! She has several unreleased demos and remixes on her page and they are almost universally excellent! The first I listened to, Hey Baby, caught my ear immediately!! It has some crisp vocals and bold synths (that remind me of another one of my favorites, Chromeo). This is a toe tapper, that should be on your next party mix. It’s a definite crowd pleaser.

The next track you need to listen to is a remix but is a great example of what Tiffany does to make the track her own. I love this remix of Runaway. It’s definitely another indie dance party future classic. I’m surprised they weren’t on this first, slackers!

The last song I’ll leave you with is Burn The City. This has a bit of a different sound and demonstrates a bit of the versatility that TGWDE touts on her soundcloud page as one of her greatest assets. I’m inclined to agree her assertion.

With a debut EP waiting in the wings for imminent release, I am waiting with great anticipation to see what she has in store for us next!

The Hood Internet – Over Your Head (B. o. B. & 2 Chainz x Chromeo) + Mr. Oizo + Free Downloads

Our favorite mash up masters, The Hood Internet, are back and dropping gems. Chromeo is teasing their new album like crazy and I can’t wait. The one track they’ve released, Over Your Shoulder, has spawned a number of different versions and The Hood Internet provide us with one of the best. Here they seamlessly weave Chromeo’s samples with B. o. B. and 2 Chainz vocals creating something entirely new, while leaving the components eminently recognizable. I freaking love it.

Mr. Oizo, of Flatbeat fame, has also dropped an awesome remix this Chromeo single. If don’t know who Mr. Oizo is you need to do some reading, legendary. His remix goes a little oldschool and weaves in some serious samples and a beat that land somewhere between DJ Shadow, Groove Armada and vintage Mr. Oizo. Get some! Both of these versions bring something very different to the table but both serve to increase my desire to get my hands on Chromeo’s new album and the whole ecosystem of tracks that go along with it.

FINALLY!!! Clearly, I’ve been waiting for this. Our favorite disco synth funkateers, Chromeo, are back with a new album on the horizon. After teasing us with for a few weeks with the hashtag, #newalbumoclock, they’ve finally uncorked some of that goodness to share with us. I’m not going to lie, hearing this little bit of Over Your Shoulder has me even more excited than before for this new release (titled White Women). I think a special note should be made of the nice Steve Miller, Fly Like an Eagle sample at around the 24 second mark. Awesome.

I’m getting a lot of Chromeo influences here. And I’m liking it. Quentin 909 is straight out of Amsterdam. He’s certainly no stranger to the sexy time funk that Chromeo has championed. Now he’s putting his own spin on things. This remix from Ride The Universe is just top shelf. I’m excited to hear what he’s got lined up for us next.
