Happy Summah! Good and you? It’s Tropical Tuesday and I’m sitting here wearing my freshest short sleeve button down featuring flamingos and wind surfers cause that’s what this song demands. A marriage made in funky vibes heaven. Pink Flamingo Rhythm Review and French Horn Rebellion teamed up to release this funkdafied slow burner to get your mind right. In case you haven’t learned yet, Pink Flamingo Rhythm Review is the brainchild of Doc Mendelsohn of Ghost Beach. And French Horn Rebellion needs to further introduction. They’re releasing this tune with some even bigger news which is a new full length album coming out this fall. If this is just a taste of what’s to come then we are in for a treat!

I present to you, Moon Walkers for some 2016 charmé[d] (tenses: ing, s, ed) listening. The name comes from what I can envision would be the perfect (not to everyone) playlist for my first walk on the moon. Don’t make me wait too long, Branson.

Been down in Central America soaking up some vibes for a bit now and it’s allowed me some perspective. I’d be lying if I told you I took that I didn’t take a few days break from new tunes. The mariachi bands and salsa music playing the rooftops here are enough to make you take some time out and take it all in. It’s also made me realize what’s important, and that is good music is a global truth. While each region or country in this world may have their signature sound, there’s one constant: emotion. It can be displayed in any number of ways, but as long as music evokes emotion, it’s doing it’s job.

It makes sense that my first post since leaving the USA feels very much like home. Coming by way of our partners in numerous crimes: Ghost Beach. They’ve had quite a strong year and I can’t say that I’m not surprised. It’s why we launched our record label to put out their remix EP last year. Now I’m happy to see them making moves all over the place, touring the country and starting their very own label in Crazy Heart Records. With extremely strong releases which they’ve been churning out at break neck pace for the past couple of months with Dart Party, PROM & Fickle Friends. Here we get their take on a Fickle Friends tune and I’m mesmerized. Enjoy.

On July 11, 2014 I had the opportunity to DJ my first festival stage at The Hudson Project in Saugerties, NY. It was one of the most amazing, life changing experiences I have ever been privy to. This is a recording of what happened. It is a moment I will never forget and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to do what I love in front of so many amazing people. I hope it’s the first of many and I hope you enjoy.

It’s not every day that a match is made in heaven. But sometimes the gods smile upon us. I’ve literally been waiting to talk about this track for a year. The homie Dart Party has been upping his game with each new release an in this instance, he collaborated with none other than our dudes, Ghost Beach to take the delicious grit pop gem Moon Over Japan and turned it out into an absolute dance floorgasm. In the best of ways. I’ve been listening to this for months anxiously awaiting its release to the masses. I can confidently say that Dart Party has arrived and he’s only getting stronger. Be on the lookout for more original material coming from him in the very near future.

Nightbox – Burning

Nightbox, from Toronto, dropped this single back in Feb and toured briefly with Albert Hammond Jr. in the Fall. We need to get them back to NYC for a show.

It’s the mystery behind this masterpiece that put it over the edge and onto my list. Who’s in this band? What is their live setup like? What will their second single sound like? If it’s as good as the first, will my head explode? Answers to each will come in 2014.

The 1975 – Chocolate

I generally have a problem blogging layups. It just doesn’t feel as good to tell people something they already know. It’s like if a friend was coming to NYC for the first time, does he need to be told to visit the Empire State Building? I tried to squeeze in a remix or cover to fit my The 1975 quota, but it just didnt work. This track is amazing and needs to be on the list.

Kathryn Ostenberg – Hold On (Josh Money Remix)

Never in history has a DJ/producer found a more perfect home for such an exquisite vocal stem. Listen to the original and you’ll know what I mean.

Klingande – Jubel

I think we can all agree that the US is way behind Europe in the EDM movement. People are literally still choking on the build/drop movement over here while the French are busy inventing the next biggest thing…Jazz House…get involved. Did you know this track is number one on German MTV?

Say Lou Lou – Julian (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Swedish model/artist twins meet the most relevant American DJ/producers in the game. This has been on the list since day one.

Panama – Destroyer

Sometimes a band comes out with a single that’s so good people forget to listen to the B-sides. Thats what happened here when Panama dropped Always over the summer. Don’t sleep on this track though, its my favorite off their EP.

Vance Joy – Riptide

I was late to the Vance Joy party this year but got caught up quickly after hearing an amazing jazz house remix last month. I have not seen this Australian act yet, but i’m really looking forward to their tour with Young The Giant in Feb.

St. Lucia – Elevate

I’ve probably listened to this track more than any other this entire year. I can’t wait to see the show again in Jan.

Urban Cone – New York (Oliver Nelson Remix)

This is a perfect collaboration from two of Sweden’s best and brightest.

Ghost Beach – Miracle (Gigamesh Remix)

You would be right to call me out here given our label released this track in March, but I have no choice. This track is incredible. Now with Ghost Beach‘s debut album dropping March 4th and Miracle setting up to be the Summer 2014 anthem, I think this track is going to get a ton of play next year.

Tim’s Essential Tracks of 2013

So that was 2013 huh? Pretty solid year. I’ve been working on this list all year. Full disclosure, if you’re looking for the obvious “Best of 2013″ list, this is not for you. This is more about the tracks that might have slipped through the cracks, the tracks that never quite got the attention they deserved. Some of them are more obvious than others (read: Daft Punk). While others, need to be heard (read: Streets of Laredo).

How do you boil down a year to 15 songs? In my case, you don’t. You make a soundcloud best of and a Spotify Best of list. We had a banner year personally, professionally and musically. A lot of firsts that I am extremely thankful for. Rather than sit here and wax poetic on what was definitely the best year of my life, why don’t you just sit back and listen to these tunes that helped make 2013 so special?

And then I made a totally different Spotify playlist so you got hours of music to listen to.

Ghost Beach – On My Side

What can I say that I haven’t said about Ghost Beach? Well, I’ll tell you that every song they release I like more than the one before it. The Ghost Beach train is barreling down the tracks and picking up some serious steam. Set for their full length album release on March 4th 2014 via NETTWERK records, we couldn’t be more excited for boys. This song features one of my favorite guitar licks from Doc and of course the soaring vocals that we’ve come to love from Josh Ocean. We’ve seen it live a couple of times and the energy of this track is unstoppable. This one’s gonna be a repeat for a while. Even though I want Christmas to last forever, March 4th can’t get here soon enough.

Ghost Beach is building serious momentum headed into their debut album release early next year. Last week they dropped a Miracle Remix EP featuring this gem from the rising LA producer/DJ DallasK. If you’re in Brooklyn on Monday or DC on Dec 12th then I highly recommend catching Ghost Beach live. Their set includes several future Hypem Top Tens that may not get released until next year.
