This rework is a complete departure from the original — in fact, I’d say no trace of The Chainsmokers footprint was left behind in the making. The track centers around presenting the effortlessly pure vocals of our favorite duo SirenXX in a new, fresh way. Monterrey-based Lemarroy surrounds the leading ladies expressive voices with a heavy disco beat, decelerating the song into a gentler dance dream.

Josef Salvat has it all figured out. On the thirtieth day following your EP release, you drop a The Chainsmokers remix of your hit single. Thats what the textbook says cuz that’s what works. Somewhere in their busy schedule of air travel, leaping from DJ tables and posting hilarious memes to Instagram (often involving cute puppies), the NYC based touring producer duo still finds time to crank out insanely relevant dance hits for international rock/pop acts. And we’re extremely glad that they do as their latest is nothing short of exquisite. Peep the remix and original below!

“Beats are where the magic’s at”, says SIREN, an LA based indie-pop duo (Skyler Stonestreet and Kat Ostenberg) with a penchant for rap music. You may know them from their debut stunner “I Think I Like You” which premiered right here at TMD back in April. After three days on top of the hypem charts these modern day Indigo Girls had their own Cinderella moment. Their lives have not yet changed since signing with Warner Brothers Records earlier this summer but the perks have certainly been nice! Topping that list is having their song produced by The Chainsmokers and premieried just yesterday on Buzzfeed.

KANYE was written by SIREN and close friend/producer Mike Del Rio, in a euphoric state of admiration caused by years of failed late night freestyle sessions to various 808s & Heartbreak instrumentals. “Kanye cares and believes in everything he is saying. He puts things out in the universe and makes them happen and it is super inspiring. His name should be Kanye ‘manifest’ West. Kidding/not kidding ha!”, remarked SIREN in a rare email interview late last night. When asked what it was like working with The Chainsmokers, the duo replied “We expected their kisses to taste way more like cigarettes. JKJKJK…they are hilarious dudes…but no make out sessions…(not yet anyway).”

Between collaborations with international DJ superstars, SIREN spends most of their time in Los Angeles’ Paramount Studios laying down their upcoming record, to be released by Warner Brothers Records this fall. So, you need a tune to blast off to at the start of SXSW? The Chainsmokers remix of Chromeo‘s Jealous is going to be gracing dance floors for years to come.

It gives me the shivers and I can’t help but think of the first time I heard Eric Prydz, Call On Me. The wonderful balance between the original vocals and the Chainsmokers electronic sample make this an irresistible, toe tapping, classic. Just like their remix of Smallpool’s Dreaming, the Chainsmokers knock another one out of park again, home run!

Im partially embarrassed to be putting a Taylor Swift track on my Best Of list, but this remix is just so damn choice. And to think our homies at SOTRW made it entirely bootleg…no stems, no nothin.

Nightbox – Burning

Nightbox, from Toronto, dropped this single back in Feb and toured briefly with Albert Hammond Jr. in the Fall. We need to get them back to NYC for a show.

Henry Green – Electric feel (Gespleu downcast edit)

It’s the mystery behind this masterpiece that put it over the edge and onto my list. Who’s in this band? What is their live setup like? What will their second single sound like? If it’s as good as the first, will my head explode? Answers to each will come in 2014.

The 1975 – Chocolate

I generally have a problem blogging layups. It just doesn’t feel as good to tell people something they already know. It’s like if a friend was coming to NYC for the first time, does he need to be told to visit the Empire State Building? I tried to squeeze in a remix or cover to fit my The 1975 quota, but it just didnt work. This track is amazing and needs to be on the list.

Kathryn Ostenberg – Hold On (Josh Money Remix)

Never in history has a DJ/producer found a more perfect home for such an exquisite vocal stem. Listen to the original and you’ll know what I mean.

Klingande – Jubel

I think we can all agree that the US is way behind Europe in the EDM movement. People are literally still choking on the build/drop movement over here while the French are busy inventing the next biggest thing…Jazz House…get involved. Did you know this track is number one on German MTV?

Say Lou Lou – Julian (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Swedish model/artist twins meet the most relevant American DJ/producers in the game. This has been on the list since day one.

Panama – Destroyer

Sometimes a band comes out with a single that’s so good people forget to listen to the B-sides. Thats what happened here when Panama dropped Always over the summer. Don’t sleep on this track though, its my favorite off their EP.

Vance Joy – Riptide

I was late to the Vance Joy party this year but got caught up quickly after hearing an amazing jazz house remix last month. I have not seen this Australian act yet, but i’m really looking forward to their tour with Young The Giant in Feb.

St. Lucia – Elevate

I’ve probably listened to this track more than any other this entire year. I can’t wait to see the show again in Jan.

Urban Cone – New York (Oliver Nelson Remix)

This is a perfect collaboration from two of Sweden’s best and brightest.

Ghost Beach – Miracle (Gigamesh Remix)

You would be right to call me out here given our label released this track in March, but I have no choice. This track is incredible. Now with Ghost Beach‘s debut album dropping March 4th and Miracle setting up to be the Summer 2014 anthem, I think this track is going to get a ton of play next year.

Tim’s Essential Tracks of 2013

So that was 2013 huh? Pretty solid year. I’ve been working on this list all year. Full disclosure, if you’re looking for the obvious “Best of 2013″ list, this is not for you. This is more about the tracks that might have slipped through the cracks, the tracks that never quite got the attention they deserved. Some of them are more obvious than others (read: Daft Punk). While others, need to be heard (read: Streets of Laredo).

How do you boil down a year to 15 songs? In my case, you don’t. You make a soundcloud best of and a Spotify Best of list. We had a banner year personally, professionally and musically. A lot of firsts that I am extremely thankful for. Rather than sit here and wax poetic on what was definitely the best year of my life, why don’t you just sit back and listen to these tunes that helped make 2013 so special?

And then I made a totally different Spotify playlist so you got hours of music to listen to.

The Colourist – Fix This (The Chainsmokers Remix)

What can you say about The Chainsmokers? You can start with their undeniable ability to turn a song OUT. You can say they’ve got perfect hair, you can say they’re great guys and their banter is second to none. Really, all you have to say is they are doing the damn thing. Consistently churning out hot jams worthy of firsts in the air in the most un-ironic of ways. Listen to this track and try not to start bobbing and weaving. Not possible. Not now not never. Just do the damn thing and thank those above that they released close to the weekend, cause this is built for raging.

For all of you up and coming producers/DJ’s in the game: follow The Chainsmokers. Homeboys just know how to do it. All around, they’re the full package. They also send the best emails in the business. It’s very apparent that they have a real passion for what they’re creating and they’re also having the time of their god damn lives doing it. This time, they take a step back from the progressive indie house that we have come to expect and they take a walk off the deep end and remix the ever lovely Banks and get all emo on us. I’m not mad about it. Now go have some sex.

ASTR – Operate (The Chainsmokers Remix)

This is unsustainable. It’s just too awesome. ASTR came out of nowhere a couple of months ago and dropped a bomb with ‘Operate’. The Chainsmokers are a TMD fave and have been firing on all cylinders getting their remix / production / performance game on lock. So we were super stoked to hear they were collabing on this track. I’ve been licking my chops ever since. And this is becoming a Chainsmokers specialty. Taking vocal heavy, slow jams and making them progessive indie dance floor killers. Enjoy. We’re looking forward to massive things from both parties involved.
